Tiles - Tradition and Innovation

"For us, tiles represent much more than just a covering; they are a cultural expression, an element of identity and a creative tool that combines tradition and modernity."
The art of tile making is one of Portugal's most renowned crafts, with a wide variety of high-quality tiles available from north to south. As our philosophy is to favour national materials, tiles are a passion of ours and one of our materials of choice.
When we talk about tiles, we are referring to authentic tiles, that is, traditional, hand-painted tiles with a beveled edge. These are the genuine tiles that stand the test of time and give each project a unique character.
Handcrafted tiles and their glaze are always unique. It is through tiles that we bring colour to architecture, and the colour palette in tile work is very varied and elegant. We like to use tiles creatively, combining traditional patterns in a contemporary way, or playing with different shades of the same tone to create distinctive panels.

It was through our first renovation projects that this passion emerged, where handmade tiles characterise traditional Portuguese architecture. We wanted to preserve this feature while reinterpreting this tradition of national architecture. This is how we approach our way of seeing and thinking about architecture: reinterpreting tradition and redesigning it in a contemporary way, giving it the identity of the place.
We like to work with tiles that are often considered waste, regarded as second choice because they have small defects, but which do not compromise the quality of the piece. We see beauty in these defects, a more mottled paint that gives each tile its own personality and which, when strategically combined, creates unique patches of colour. These pieces are more affordable and contribute to a more sustainable project.

In addition to being a noble material and part of national tradition, tiles are also very resistant, do not lose their colour over time and are waterproof, providing safety and longevity to the surfaces where they are applied.
Working with tiles is, above all, a way of honouring and preserving Portugal's architectural heritage, reinterpreting it with authenticity and respect to create architecture with soul, rooted in the place and focused on the future.
